Our Vision

Empowering students with a passion and aptitude for Mathematics to deepen their understanding, become leaders in the field, and apply their knowledge to make a meaningful impact on society.

At RV Mathematics Leaders Academy (MLA), we believe in harnessing the talents of our students in Mathematics. Our mission is to inspire and empower students, nurturing them to become leaders in the field. We cultivate a broad passion and deep subject mastery, enabling each student to realise their fullest potential and contribute meaningfully to society. Our B.u&i.L.D (Broaden.Lead.Deepen) approach guides the academy, characterised by Breadth, Depth, and Length in our curriculum and leadership development.

Our Objectives

Through the Academy's B.u&i.L.D approach, we seek to nurture students who

  • demonstrate aptitude, intellectual curiousity, and the right attitudes toward the acquisition of advanced mathematical knowledge

  • have a passion for and are innovative in applying Mathematics in novel ways

  • are grounded in sound values to use Mathematics to benefit society

Broad-based Learning

Students’ perspectives are broadened through enrichment workshops conducted in-house or by external speakers, as well as learning journeys designed to enhance their mathematical learning experience. There are also opportunities for student-directed research where students engage in self-initiated learning to explore, discover, construct knowledge and apply their mathematical understanding in areas of their interest. Through purposeful discussions, students engage in mathematical discourse, exchange perspectives and extend their thinking.

Students also have the opportunity to participate in the Overseas Experiential Learning Programme, where they experience interdisciplinary learning by connecting mathematics with other disciplines through real-world applications in areas such as architecture, innovation, technology and engineering. Through cultural immersion and interactions with local students, our students also gain valuable global exposure, broadening their perspectives and developing a deeper appreciation of diverse cultures and viewpoints in an increasingly interconnected world.

Deep Subject Mastery

Rigorous training is conducted to equip students with higher-order critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and prepare them for national and international Mathematics competitions. Sec 4 and JC 1 students can also look forward to undertaking several-month-long research projects under the mentorship of academics or researchers from institutes of higher learning or research institutions. In groups, students build their mathematical rigour and intellect, and acquire useful mathematical research skills.

Leadership Development

Students have opportunities to develop their leadership capabilities through planning, leading and implementing key initiatives such as the RV STEM Fest, a flagship student-led event jointly with the Science Leaders Academy. Designed for primary school students, student leaders work collaboratively across disciplines, sharpening their organisational and communication skills, and ensuring effective implementation of engaging STEM learning experiences.

MLA further promotes student agency though MyMLA, a leadership platform that empowers students to initiate and lead ground-up projects driven by their passion for Mathematics. Through MyMLA, students share their enthusiasm with their peers and the wider student community by designing meaningful activities. As they value-create in support of MLA’s objectives, students develop a strong sense of ownership, purpose and responsibility as contributing members of the Academy.
